I’ll admit it, I’m shamelessly borrowing this idea.
My friend Stuart, who pastors a fantastic church down in Florida, recently posted a summer reading list for his congregation. I loved the idea so much that I decided to make one of my own. (Thanks, Stuart.)
Summer is a great time to slow down a little, recharge, and dig into a good book. Whether you’re on the beach, in the mountains, or just enjoying a quiet evening on the back porch, it’s the perfect season to grow your faith through thoughtful reading.
So here are a few titles I highly recommend—for anyone at Cornerstone or beyond—who wants to grow spiritually and think more deeply about following Jesus:
- Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
This is a timeless book about the heart of the Christian faith. - The Common Rule: Habits of Purpose for an Age of Distraction by Justin Whitmel Earley
A practical and refreshing guide to forming spiritual rhythms that anchor your life in Christ. - How to Teach Kids Theology: Deep Truths for Growing Faith by Dan Ryland
This is perfect for parents, teachers, and volunteers discipling the next generation. - The Unsaved Christian: Reaching Cultural Christianity with the Gospel by Dean Inserra
This book is the antidote for those who are high on religion or spirituality but low on Jesus and the gospel. - Reset: Living a Grace-Paced Life in a Burnout Culture by David Murray
Grace changes everything, including our approach to productivity and busyness.
I hope you’ll take advantage of the slower pace of summer to do some intentional reading. These are solid resources to help you grow.
Happy reading!
Pastor Josh
